Gaia is the ancestral mother of all life: the primal Mother Earth goddess. She is the personification of Earth. Without Gaia, according to Greek Mythology, none of the other great gods and goddesses — or even humans — would exist. As the first Great Goddess, she was responsible for the beginning of life on planet Earth. Gaia, according to Greek mythology, has the ability to create life without the interaction of men and women.

In Greek Mythology, the sphinx has the head of a woman, the body of a lion, and the wings of a bird. She is mythicized as treacherous and merciless. Those who can not answer her riddle will suffer a fate typical in such mythological stories as they are eaten and killed by this ravenous monster.
